Travel Guide: Las Vegas, NV

So the surprise trip went off without a hitch! Justin didn’t expect a thing!! (It even took him a minute to figure out that I was serious about going to Vegas right then!)  Now, I’ve been to Las Vegas before but I wasn’t 21 yet, so it was a very different experience this go around. This trip was all about going new places and checking out all the touristy things the city had to offer! It was so amazing to see all the extravagance of the casinos. I would recommend not going during the winter though! We got a little chilly in the colder weather, but still managed to walk a full marathon while we were there. I definitely wasn’t expecting that!

Where to Stay

We stayed at the Flamingo right in the middle of the strip. Our room was nice and had a beautiful view of Caesars Palace across the street. Downstairs was an amazing Flamingo exhibit with a big waterfall and koi pond – hence the name! We went to the Paradise Garden Buffet, and one wall was completely windows out to the Flamingo exhibit!! It was a nice way to start today. The casino was more forgiving than most of the others there, and there were plenty of waitresses to get a beverage from while you play. It, very conveniently, turned out to be one of our favorite places!

What to Do

Our absolute favorite place was the Bellagio! It was stunning with the massive fountain at the entrance, amazing garden, chocolate fountain, and impressive casino and drinks!

Let’s start with the fountain. There’s a fountain show every 30 minutes from 3 pm to 8 pm and then every 15 minutes from 8 pm to midnight, Monday thru Friday. On the Saturday the shows start at noon, and on Sunday at 11 am! It’s definitely a must see!

The garden changes every season! Right now the 14,000 square foot space is designed to celebrate the Chinese New Year, Year of the Pig! It is absolutely gorgeous!! It is set to change again for their spring show on March 16th. Be sure to check their ‘dark dates’ before you book your hotel – for about one week every three months or so the garden is closed while they change the display.

The chocolate fountain is the largest in the world, and holds three types of chocolate (milk, dark, and white)! It resides in a little bakery shop, the Bellagio Patisserie. We got a cheese danish and ohmygod! It was amazing! So light and sweet and perfect!

This casino was by far my favorite. The slots were definitely the best, we got a few bigger hits here! And the drinks were great! I got a cosmo (one of my favorite drinks) and it was delicious. Plus, it came in a martini glass, instead of in a plastic cup. I like that it’s more eco-friendly and looked really cool!

The Mirage also has some really cool stuff! Using the MyVegas App, we were able to get a free buffet there! (Definitely download that app if you plan to go to Vegas! It doesn’t take long to get a few freebies!) They had entrees from around the world! Talk about yummy. They also have dolphins, white tigers, and lions in the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat. Unfortunately we weren’t able to check that out, but it’s on my list for next time!

There were many other really beautiful hotels that we wandered through and played at as we made our way from the “Fabulous Las Vegas” sign all the way to the other end of the strip, ending at Treasure Island. The above were definitely my highlights, though. Below are pictures from other hotels on the adventure!

If you have any questions about Vegas, leave them in the comments and I’ll be sure to get back to you!
